PUWER/Risk Assessments

Whilst learning about the PUWER regulations we also go through the safety aspects of each machine, working through the safe operation and targeting the following key points:

Regulations that apply to the machine
Identify and function of controls
Correct setting and use of Guards/Jigs and safety devices
Correct setting of the machine
Blade Identification
Blade changing
Safe use of the machine
Practical assessment of items mentioned above
Sign Off assessment sheet at the end of the training session
Safe working Practices, Identifying and preventing any hazards
Drill bits on table
PUWER requires machinery safety audits to be carried out at regular intervals, but you may also need a PUWER risk assessment when:

  • After installation and before being put into service for the first time; or after assembly at a new site or in a new location to ensure that it has been installed correctly and is safe to operate.
  • After work equipment has been exposed to any conditions causing deterioration, which is liable to cause a dangerous situation.
  • At suitable intervals; and
  • Each time that exceptional circumstances have occurred that are liable to jeopardise the safety of work equipment. The results of these inspections have to be documented and kept until the next subsequent inspection is recorded. So, in other words you should have a current inspection report at all times.
The results of these inspections have to be documented and kept until the next subsequent inspection is recorded. So, in other words you should have a current inspection report on file at any one time.
All our courses include the provision of a training booklet with detailed information and illustrations and important safety aspects specific to that machine. These booklets are left with the candidate for future reference.
